Setting Foot on Campus

Setting Foot on Campus

AS PART OF WELCOME DAYS, ORIENTATION MEETINGS WILL PROVIDE BASIC INFORMATION TO STUDENTS TO START OFF THE ACADEMIC YEAR AND THE BOCCONI EXPERIENCE. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN PARTICULAR HAVE A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT THEIR LIVES IN A NEW CITY AND A NEW COUNTRY

With any new adventure, whatever kind, it’s important to start off on the right foot. Especially when the adventure in question is higher education, which is full of prospects, opportunities and definitely challenges.

With the aim of giving students the instructions they need to make the most of the curricular and extracurricular opportunities offered by Bocconi and helping first-year students get integrated into the University community and correctly plan their education, the Guidance and Recruitment Office has organized a series of events, “Orientation Meetings.” They will be held during Welcome Days, which start on 1 September and last three weeks, and instructions and suggestions on how to navigate in their new setting will be provided during the Meetings and, for international students, how to settle into a new country and a new culture.

The events will be attended by representatives of the Offices providing the main services available to students. Along with the faculty, these Offices will be points of reference and support for students during their studies. “The idea behind the Orientation Meetings arose from an understanding that students beginning their education at University need to settle in and learn how to navigate a new context that is very different from high school. Students run the risk of tripping over their own feet, so to speak, especially during their first semester, when it’s most important that they begin their studies properly,” explains Stefania Bianchi, Director of the Student Affairs Division. “Being part of a community means learning to understand its customs, as well as the procedures and functions that guarantee the efficiency and quality of teaching and services. This is why we would like to concentrate instructions for how to understand University processes during one informative and discussion-based event, held after the introductions by Program Directors. Campus life activities, how to register for exams, the One-Stop Service Center and attendance rules will be discussed. How to use the Student Agenda and Punto Blu stations will also be explained, and international students will hear about how to use National Healthcare services, how to open a bank account and how to get their residence permit.”
