A Program in Political Science Will Be Launched at Bocconi in 2015. In English

THE BACHELOR IN INTERNATIONAL POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT IS THE FIRST UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN A NEW FIELD OF STUDY IN 16 YEARS. A NEW PHD HAS ALSO BEEN LAUNCHED AND A MASTER PROGRAM IS BEING DEVELOPED WITH THE LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCES

With a new Bachelor program, a PhD program and a proposal for a master program with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, Bocconi is making its entrance into Political Science education. As already occurred with Law in 1999, this subject will play out  in an innovative and international way, in order to build a distinct identity in a market that is already full of traditional political science programs. In fact, political science at Bocconi will be taught in English and with a quantitative approach.

The Bachelor in International Politics and Government, available starting in the 2015-2016 academic year, marks Bocconi’s first degree program in a new field of study in 16 years. The PhD in Public Policy and Administration, which began in the current academic year, is a four-year program at the highest level. Lastly, Bocconi is developing a graduate program with the London School of Economics and Political Sciences in the area of European Politics and Government, with a joint master in Milan and London to complete a full offer in the political science area.

The new Bachelor program is designed for young people interested in steering social, political and economic changes, who believe that a solid quantitative background – which opens doors to the international job market – is required in order to affect these areas. In particular, the aim is to produce graduates equipped to intervene in the design, implementation and evaluation stages of public policies.

The new program is a niche Bachelor, which will be open to only 60 participants in the first year, with all the benefits that small numbers provide in terms of teaching innovation. One key feature is a compulsory exchange semester, required at an international partner university, as well as curricular internships at international institutions.

There are four core topics around which courses and possible post-Bachelor paths revolve: international relations; political science; public management; and economics and quantitative sciences. Other compulsory courses will include Computer Skills, Citizen Behavior Research Skills, Negotiation Skills and Media and Political Communication. Students will be required to choose four elective courses during the third year of the program.

The PhD in Public Policy & Administration aims to mold scholars specialized in the analysis, design, evaluation, implementation and management of public policy and prepare them not only for a research career, but also to hold positions as high level analysts in government agencies, think tanks and international organizations.

Another new development in the 2015-2016 academic year dedicated to students who would like to work in management roles in the public sector is the Master of Science in Government and International Organizations, a program entirely taught in English that is the natural evolution of the Master of Science in Economics and Management of Public Administration and International Institutions.
