BOCCONI'S STUDENT MEDIA CENTER ACCOMMODATES THE OVER 200 STUDENTS THAT CREATE RADIO BOCCONI, TRA I LEONI AND BOCCONI TV UNDER THE SAME ROOF

Seventeen, seven, five. The first, which began 17 years ago, is the student newspaper, Tra i Leoni. Then Radio Bocconi was founded in 2008, and lastly Bocconi TV, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. All three together make up Bocconi’s Student Media Center, a project developed by the university to give voice to student opinions and debate on a daily basis. It is a large platform on the web and in print that is organized and managed directly by students.

However, the ages of the student newspaper, radio and TV only provides a vague idea what the Student Media Center is today. The numbers 120-60-30 would be better, because these are the number of students who put themselves to the test each year in front of the Radio Bocconi microphones, the Bocconi TV cameras and the Tra i Leoni computers, respectively.

The launch of Tolkative

“Bocconi TV has always been a sort of training ground for me,” explains Ennio Terrasi Borghesan, general director of the youngest of the media organizations, Bocconi TV. “Here we can learn with an advantage: we’re allowed to make mistakes.” Ennio set food in BTV in 2012 and, in addition to managing it, he is one of the students who works on journalism issues. “After my on-the-job work, with an awareness of the situation, now I think I can objectively assess television created by others. It has given me those soft skills that are fundamental for anyone who wants to continue in this industry.” The TV channel, which is getting ready to celebrate five years of work, won the Teletopi award in 2012 as best university web TV channel. In addition to many programs ( an episode of the sitcom Carsharing has reached over 200,000 views on YouTube), it has also worked on a film, Non è tempo per noi , and an interactive short, Il violino dalle corde di lana . “And another short film, the thriller Tolkative, opened the semester,” says Ennio.

Radio Bocconi began programming this semester with a week of live broadcasts from and with Sanremo (the TV channel will also participate). The idea, says station manager Giuseppe Musella, is that the work managing a web station is good training in part from a management point of view. “You need to learn to place the right amount of importance on everyone’s problems, to interact with others and to manage your time, all of which is not trivial. In short, it taught me to get organized.” The radio station, which started as part of the Unyonair project with Radio24 , was officially founded in 2008 after its first trial year. Giuseppe has been its leader since May 2014, when the traditional RB birthday party is held. “This year,” says Musella, “we’d like to do a program live from B Bar, so that anyone listening can see how the radio works live.”

2013: Tra i Leoni celebrates 15 years of work

Lorenzo Cinelli is also interested in teamwork. He is the latest head editor of Tra I Leoni. The newspaper celebrated fifteen years of work in 2013 along with three leading Italian journalists (Marco Pratellesi, Gianni Riotta and Filippo Solibello), and in 17 years has produced 70 issues . “We have always seen the newspaper as a vehicle to talk about all aspects of our lives as twenty-somethings, and as a point of contact between people who want to express their opinion,” says Lorenzo. “Collaboration between the various media outlets allows each organization’s strengths to make up for the others’ weaknesses. Each one provides a different point of view of looking at what’s happening. And in the future the media center will be even stronger and more dynamic.” “After all, three heads are better than one,” adds Giuseppe Musella, and Ennio Terrasi Borghesan stresses that “students appreciate the Student Media Center more and more.” There are two hot topics scheduled to appear in the columns of Tra i Leoni: “The first is the elections for student representatives. The second, of course, is the Expo.”

Best of luck to RB, TiL and BTV for the semester. And for everyone else, here are the email addresses to contact to become part of the groups:
