Future startuppers at school of financing

IN JULY, IN MILAN, A COURSE ON EQUITY AND VENTURE CAPITAL FINANCING AT THE NEW BOCCONI SUMMER SCHOOL WILL TEACH 30 BACHELOR STUDENTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD HOW BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS CAN SEARCH FOR FUNDING

Three weeks this summer in Milan dedicated to future startuppers, to learn how to finance a startup, understand the right steps needed to launch an entrepreneurial initiative and learn how to interact with possible venture capitalists. This is what the new Bocconi Summer School has in store for the 30 Bachelor students who choose Equity and Venture Capital Financing, one of the 4 topics available at the school (the others focus on Economics of European Union, Sport Management and Luxury Management).

The Summer School, which will take place at Università Bocconi, from 6 to 24 July, with courses held entirely in English, will host a total of 120 students from all over the world. Registration closes on May 4th.

“The objective of the course on Private Equity and Venture Capital is to understand what mechanisms financiers use to choose startups,” explains Stefano Caselli, Professor of Finance and Coordinator of Bocconi Start-Up Day, who will teach the course. “This will be done with three levels of analysis: we will study who financiers are, what their management processes are and, using case studies, we will examine what are the main forms of funding, focusing in particular on when a company does not yet exist.”

There will be more than just theory-based lectures for the aspiring startuppers: the course will also include several company visits to experience first-hand the world of private equity and venture capital. “Students,” continues Caselli, “will be guests at Borsa Italiana (the Milan stock exchange), Private Equity Partners, one of the leading players in the sector, and UniCredit.” Along with the three other Summer School class groups, students will also participate in an event dedicated to leadership with Pasquale Gravina, silver-medal winning volleyball player at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and bronze winner at Sydney 2000.
