Tommaso's Startup Is Delivering Big Time

TOMMASO TAMBURNOTTI, BOCCONI ALUMNUS, IS COFOUNDER OF EASYSHIP, AN ONLINE PLATFORM BASED IN HONG KONG TO FACILITATE THE DELIVERY OF ECOMMERCE, THAT WAS JUDGED BEST STARTUP AT TECH ASIA 2015

The paths of shipping are endless, but if you're an online retailer in Asia then Tommaso Tamburnotti, 27 year-old Bocconi  alumnus, will find you the most effective and reliable way thanks to EasyShip, his startup, recently ranked best among Tech Startups at Singapore Tech Asia 2015.

Tommaso’s studies  in Bocconi began with three-year Bachelor  followed by the Master  program in International Management, a curriculum that included two internships in the world of hedge funds and investment banks. It seemed that Tommaso was on his way to a career in finance.

"But I decided I wanted to do something more practical, get my hands dirty and not find myself in front of a PC all the time as an analyst. I wanted to create a business, put together a team, to have responsibility”, explains Tommaso .

So he left for Singapore to work for the incubator Rocket Internet and more specifically as a business developer in Lazada, the leading online shopping platform in Asia,  created through the incubator. His path continued with Lazada in Malaysia as marketplace director and finally to Hong Kong as a regional marketplace director .

"In Hong Kong, the business has grown a lot, but I noticed how sellers on the platform, who arrived from Thailand to China, from Singapore to the Philippines, encounter serious problems in managing the packaging, shipping and tracking of their products.  They needed a reliable tool that would make the path less fragmented and more structured, "says Tommaso.

Thus, together with two colleagues, Reuben Abraham, Indian, and Augustin Ceyrac, French,  the idea of EasyShip was born: an online platform that offers logistics solutions to e-commerce sellers throughout the  South Asian region.

"We want to enable everyone to be professional and efficient in their shipments. We pick up the product and then we'll take care of packaging and choose the route and the best method of shipping, which we can do using our aligorithm. There are, for example, more than 200 shipping companies in the world, each with its strengths and weaknesses, and it is important to make the most effective choice, "explains Tommaso .

The activity went live in January and now has already sent 1,500 packages around the world. And with an imminent deal on a major new round of financing, business growth it is assured thanks to the boom in e-commerce in the region.

The startup has also generated more interest among venture capitalists in the region after participating in May at Singapore Tech Asia 2015, the leading conference for startups in Asia, and especially after winning the Startup Arena Contest, the trophy for the best startup with $15,000 prize.
