SDA Bocconi, a macroeconomist heads the MBA

FRANCESCO DAVERI IS THE NEW DIRECTOR OF THE FULL TIME MBA, WITH THE AIM OF STRENGTHENING THE POSITION IN RANKINGS, LEVERAGING FURTHER THE DIVERSITY IN THE CLASSROOM AND MAKING USE OF COLLECTIVE KNOWLEDGE

Facing the challenge of continuous change, leveraging also on the use of collective intelligence. This is the idea which will guide Francesco Daveri in his new role of Director of the Full-Time MBA program at SDA Bocconi School of Management, whose 2018 class, the 43rd edition, has just kicked off. Since September 1 prof Daveri also holds the role of Professor of practice at SDA Bocconi, an academic rank that applies to members of faculty with high-level business experience. “SDA Bocconi is introducing this new position for professors involved in teaching, research and industry”, Daveri says.

As the Director of the Full-Time MBA program, Daveri will face a demanding challenge: to strengthen and improve SDA Bocconi’s positioning in international rankings. “We aim to get better results in each parameter programs are evaluated through: salary increase after the MBA, career progress, faculty diversity, the number of articles published by faculty, the effectiveness of the careers service. To put it in a nutshell, it requires a 360 degrees care of management education,” he says. “It is difficult to improve a well-developed machine such as SDA Bocconi’s MBA – but accepting the challenge of continuous change is what we also ask of our participants in the program.”

“We offer all the things an MBA should, including a new Entrepreneurship Path this year, for participants to develop a business or social entrepreneurship idea, and the well-established Concentration in Luxury Business Management, in partnership with GUCCI, LVMH and Valentino," explains Daveri. "Given the importance of multiculturalism and diversity in today’s business world, we also have the added benefit of having participants in class coming from over 35 countries and from different industries and diverse backgrounds. I also want to build on the use of collective intelligence – with an exchange between faculty and students – to understand and share better explanations of phenomena that are happening in today's world.”

Francesco Daveri entered SDA Bocconi right after graduation, some thirty years ago, as teaching assistant at the evening MBA program. He was then, among other posts, Professor of Economic Policy in Parma and at Università Cattolica in Piacenza. His relationship with SDA Bocconi strengthened in 2000 when he started teaching Macroeconomics in the Full-Time MBA program. Among other things, Professor Daveri has been consultant to the World Bank in Washington and the European Commission in Brussels. He writes op-eds for the leading Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
